What Work Experience With SRtRC Has Taught Me.

I had first heard of Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) through school. Although I had always known about the charity, through seeing various campaigns through football and it being mentioned by family, I had always assumed it was mostly based and focused on racism within football. But my short time here has taught me that it is so much more than just that. Change regarding racism has always sparked something in me, especially considering some of my past experiences, so the charity has always been something I would like to have learned more about.

And, once the opportunity to do work experience arose, I jumped at the chance!

From my time here at the charity I have learned A LOT, and I have really enjoyed it. Although learning more about SRtRC and the way they operate has been so interesting, I would say the biggest element of the charity which has had the most impact on me was how extremely dedicated each and every single person I have met is to the organisation. How each person has a different role within the charity and carries it out with a sort of indescribable shared sense of love, respect and understanding which goes towards not just improving or developing the charity but making society a more inclusive, diverse and judgment free place for every single person.

Learning about the origin of SRtRC has been extremely fascinating as well and seeing how much of an impact it has created over the course of the last 29 years has been amazingly inspiring. Generally, just experiencing what goes on behind the scenes of the charity really gives me hope for mine, as well as future generations, due to the amount of hard work, effort, and care everybody contributes to the organisation.

My time here has shown me just how important it is to focus on shaping young minds and helping them realise the importance of acknowledging racism and the detrimental effects it has within our society. As anti-racism is vital, we encourage not just children but people of all ages to take action to advocate and create a racism free society for us all.

And the ways in which SRtRC are working towards this are so impactful, from Wear Red Day to School Competitions to The Hall of Fame, every single action has an astounding impact across England, Wales, and Scotland. My experience has shown me that racism is prevalent throughout all aspects of society, which in turn gives us all a collective responsibility to help to put an end to racism on a whole, regardless of your age, your gender or your race, because at the end of the day we are all collectively part of the human race. The key message I would take away from work experience at SRtRC is that it takes a team to create change and it is our responsibility to create a kinder world, free of racism and inequality for everybody.
