#SRtRCSpotlight: Showcasing the work of the Jewish History Association of South Wales

Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is proud to have showcased the work of the Jewish History Association of South Wales/Cymdeithas Hanes Iddewig De Cymru (JHASW/CHIDC) at an online event on 21st January.

The training session was delivered as part of the ‘The Welsh Connection: Holocaust Educational Resources for the New Curriculum for Wales’ project, funded by The Association of Jewish Refugees and Charles Wolfson Charitable Trust.

Eifion Wyn-Williams of JHASW/CHIDC shared powerful stories of people who had had their lives torn apart by the Holocaust, or Shoah, and who went on to rebuild those lives here in Wales. He showcased case studies, audio files of personal testimonies and other emotive source material, and equipped educators with the facts and awareness to educate about the topic effectively and sensitively.

Participants at the session particularly liked the personal stories and approaches to teaching.

Klavdija Erzen, JHASW/CHIDC Education Project Manager, commented:

“The imperative to teach and learn about the Holocaust is not just about preserving the past; it is about shaping a future where we can recognise and combat hatred in all its forms. Utilising locally relevant educational resources ensures these lessons resonate deeply within our communities, fostering empathy, awareness, and a commitment to never forget.”

Dean Pymble, SRtRC Campaign Manager for Wales said:

“Teaching about the Holocaust is an essential part of shaping a more inclusive and compassionate society. It is not merely a lesson in history but a profound reminder of what can happen when prejudice, hatred, and discrimination are allowed to flourish unchecked.”

To teach about the Shoah on Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January 2025 and far beyond this, useful and engaging materials, available in both English and Welsh, can be found on the Jewish History Association of South Wales’ website here

Arddangos gwaith Cymdeithas Hanes Iddewig De Cymru

Mae Dangos y Cerdyn Coch i Hiliaeth yn falch dros ben o fod wedi arddangos gwaith Cymdeithas Hanes Iddewig De Cymru (JHASW/CHIDC) mewn digwyddiad ar-lein ar Ionawr yr 21ain.

Cyflwynwyd y sesiwn hyfforddiant fel rhan o’r prosiect ‘Y Cysylltiad Cymreig: Adnoddau Addysg yr Holocost ar gyfer y Cwricwlwm Newydd i Gymru’, sydd wedi’i ariannu gan Y Gymdeithas Ffoaduriaid Iddewig / The Association of Jewish Refugees ac Ymddiriedolaeth Elusennol Charles Wolfson.

Aeth Eifion Wyn-Williams o JHASW/CHIDC ati i rannu straeon difyr am bobl lle’r oedd eu bywydau wedi chwalu gan yr Holocost, neu Shoah, ac a aeth rhagddi i ailgydio yn eu bywydau yma yng Nghymru. Fe ddangosodd astudiaethau achos, ffeiliau sain o dystiolaethau personol a deunydd ffynhonnell emosiynol eraill, ynghyd â rhannu’r ffeithiau gydag addysgwyr a hybu eu hymwybyddiaeth i ddysgu am y pwnc mewn ffordd effeithiol a sensitif.

Bu i’r rheiny wnaeth gymryd rhan yn y sesiwn fwynhau’r straeon personol a’r dulliau dysgu’n fawr.

Dywedodd Klavdija Erzen, Rheolwr Prosiect Addysg JHASW/CHIDC:

“Nid yw’r rheidrwydd i addysgu a dysgu am yr Holocost yn golygu cadw a chofio am y gorffennol yn unig, mae’n golygu llywio dyfodol lle gallwn gydnabod a brwydro yn erbyn casineb yn ei holl ffurfiau. Gan ddefnyddio adnoddau addysg sy’n berthnasol i’r ardal, mae’n sicrhau bod y gwersi hyn yn taro deuddeg gydag ein cymunedau, gan feithrin empathi, ymwybyddiaeth ac ymrwymiad i beidio ag anghofio.”

Dywedodd Dean Pymble, Rheolwr Ymgyrchoedd Dangos y Cerdyn Coch i Hiliaeth ar ran Cymru:

“Mae dysgu am yr Holocost yn rhan hanfodol o lywio cymdeithas fwy hollgynhwysol a thosturiol. Nid gwers hanes yw hi’n unig, yn hytrach mae’n atgof dwys o’r hyn a allai ddigwydd pan gaiff rhagfarn, casineb a gwahaniaethu eu caniatáu i ffynnu’n ddirwystr.”

Er mwyn addysgu am y Shoah ar Ddiwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost ar Ionawr yr 27ain 2025 ac ymhell y tu hwnt i hyn mae deunyddiau defnyddiol a difyr, yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg, ar gael ar wefan Cymdeithas Hanes Iddewig De Cymru yma

I wylio’r gweminar, ewch draw i’n Hwb Cerdyn Coch a chliciwch ar fideos. Mae’r gweminar wedi’i rannu’n ddwy ran ac mae’r ddwy bellach ar gael ar ein Hyb Addysg.
