#SRtRCSpotlight: Recognising Racism with Dulwich Hamlet FC
This week, the Southern Team hosted an excellent club-event with Dulwich Hamlet Football Club. 60 local pupils from Alleyn’s School attended Champion Hill Stadium, in Southeast London, for a day of fun and educational learning.
The Year 6 group received an anti-racism workshop where they learned how to recognise racism and how to safely challenge it. The students demonstrated excellent knowledge, respect and understanding during the workshop and activities.

The pupils then were taken on a stadium tour by, current first-team player, Mark Marshall who then led a brilliant football training session for the students, in the sunshine, out on the pitch. The students were put through their paces and enjoyed the privilege of playing on such a great football pitch.
After lunch, pupils were then joined by club top goal scorer Luke Wanadio, who alongside Mark Marshall, made up our brilliant Q+A panel. Students picked the players brains and asked some thought-provoking questions which both players answered expertly.
Teachers and students alike benefited from the day, and had this to say –
“The day was fantastic, and the educators managed to make the workshops informative and interactive. Our students have had a brilliant day”
– Mr Shone, Year 6 Teacher, Alleyn’s School
“I loved meeting the players and being able to train on the pitch. I learned lots about racism and why it is important to be an Active Citizen”.
– Rory, Year 6 Student
“Thank you so much for the workshop. These workshops are so important and worthwhile for our students and we very much look forward to the next one”.
– Miss Rolls, Year 6 Teacher, Alleyn’s School
Jack Cunningham, our Educator who runs the Southern club events said,
“Yet another wonderful day at Dulwich Hamlet to add to the list. This club, their values and the care they show local students makes this one of my personal favourite clubs to work with. To have students taking part in football sessions on the club-pitch is amazing and helps create an unforgettable day for the youngsters”.
A huge thank you to everyone at Dulwich who helped support and who ensure these events go ahead!
