#SRtRCSpotlight: Hampden Park hosts Scotland’s Creative Competition Awards 2025

The Scotland Team recently hosted their Creative Competition 2025 Awards in partnership with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). The ceremony was hosted at Hampden, the home of Scottish Football with 18 schools being represented on the day.

This year’s awards ceremony had over 3000 entries which is their highest record of submissions.

The day included a tour of the Scottish Football Museum that includes an exhibition of trailblazer Andrew Watson, the world’s first black international footballer. There was entertainment from Magician Scott Cuthbertson and Keepie-uppie King Graeme Lightbody, who were a hit with the attendees.

Kingsley, the infamous Partick Thistle Mascot designed by artist David Shrigley was on hand to say hello to all the guests and help hand out the prizes. Both the Men’s and Women’s Scottish Gas Cups were also in attendance.

The ceremony itself was hosted by the brilliant duo of Eunice Olumide MBE and Gully Singh. Eunice, a Scottish Nigerian fashion model, actress and social justice advocate being just some of the amazing work she partakes in. Gully, an on-air reporter and social media creator covering Scottish football up and down the country. Over the past season, he has been a regular voice across BBC Sportsound with his TikTok also widely known for viral fan interviews and pitch side access.

The awards were given out by an array of VIP guests such as Derek Ferguson (SRtRC Patron), Atta Yaqub, Chani Caunt & Forbes Dunlop (all three from Sports Scotland), Dan Henderson (RMT), Craig Beattie (PFA Scotland), Kaukab Stewart (Equalities Minister) and Roz Foyer (STUC).

Special surprise guests Che Adams, James Wilson & Connor Barron from the Men’s Scotland Football team created an exciting ending to the day taking part in an audience Q&A as well as making time to take pictures with the winners and guests, adding some extra magic to the event.

Each finalist received a goodie bag and a trophy to highlight their efforts and creativity.

The winners for each category:

  • S1-S3: Gryffe High School, Renfrewshire
  • S4-S6: Holyrood Secondary School, Glasgow
  • College: Forth Valley College
  • ASN School: Sanderson High School, South Lanarkshire
  • Primary Schools: St Ninian’s Primary School, South Ayrshire (P1-P3); Sgoile Bhaile a Mhanaich, Benbecula, Western Isles (P4-P5); and Dalmilling Primary School, South Ayrshire (P6-P7)

The Creative Competition was a huge success not only in terms of creativity, but what shone through was the young people’s awareness of racism and its impact on others. The theme ‘The power of our voice’ promoted work of all genres that demonstrated allyship, equality and inclusivity, all themes that we aim to educate young people about in our workshops.

Equalities Minister Kaukab Stewart, who was in attendance, said

“I am excited to help celebrate the importance of our children and young people using the power of their voices to speak-out and support anti-racism within our schools, our colleges and our communities”

A hugely successful event and SRtRC Scotland expresses a deep thanks to everyone involved in facilitating not only an superb ceremony but the behind the scenes work that allowed our young people to feel empowered to be active anti-racists!
