#SRtRCSpotlight: Further Education in Wales Strengthens Commitment to Anti-Racism

Further Education in Wales Strengthens Commitment to Anti-Racism as Gower College host wider Staff Anti-Racism Training

Further Education (FE) institutions across Wales continue to strengthen their commitment to anti-racism, supporting the Welsh Government’s ambition to make Wales an anti-racist nation by 2030.

The Anti-racist Wales Action Plan sets a clear goal for Further Education: to ensure anti-racist culture and practices are embedded across the FE sector. This includes driving organisation-wide culture change, strengthening leadership and governance, improving reporting and complaints processes, and supporting professional learning so staff have the confidence and skills to challenge racism.

Gower College Swansea is the latest FE college in Wales to receive anti-racism training for staff across all campuses, demonstrating how commitments are being turned into meaningful action.

Over the past few years, Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) has worked with a range of FE colleges across Wales, including Neath Port Talbot College, UWC Atlantic College, Cardiff and Vale College, Bridgend College, and St David’s College.

Through this work, SRtRC has delivered anti-racism training to thousands of senior leaders, staff, and students, helping to build confidence, raise awareness, and provide practical tools to challenge racism and create inclusive learning environments for all learners and staff from global majority.

The training delivered at Gower College Swansea was developed by Show Racism the Red Card and aligns with SRtRC’s vision of using education to challenge attitudes and equip individuals and organisations to prevent and respond to racism.

The sessions explored what racism is, how racism manifests in society today, and included a strong focus on language, terminology, and the impact of racist behaviour within education settings. Staff engaged with real-world scenarios relevant to college environments and were supported through a practical challenge toolkit to build confidence in recognising and responding to everyday racism.

Dean Pymble, Campaign manager for Wales said:

“Gower College Swansea is the latest FE college in Wales to deliver anti-racism training for wider staff across all campuses, demonstrating how commitments are being turned into meaningful action.”
