#SRtRCSpotlight: First ever anti-racism education event with Dumbarton FC
Concluding our final club event of the year in Scotland, our Scottish team hosted their first-ever session at Dumbarton Football Club. The event was attended by over 60 young people from two local schools: Knoxland Primary and St. Patrick’s Primary.
In the format of a carousel, the pupils took part in two interactive anti-racism workshops- Effective Allyship and Racial Literacy concepts, including Stereotyping & Gatekeeping.
Dumbarton FC Club Historian Jim McAllister kindly took the pupils a tour of the infamous ‘Rock’ stadium situated adjacent to Dumbarton Castle.
In the afternoon, the pupils were given a fantastic platform to acknowledge their learning from the morning by creating questions for our VIP panel that was kindly taken up by Dumbarton FC Women’s Players, local MSPs Jackie Baillie, Douglas McAllister, Gordon Scanlan and Lord Provost Karen Murray Conaghan.
This was a key part of the day, with footballers lending their platform to inspire change and equality in sport. Members of political parties also shared empowering insights on how we can – and are – working to dismantle racism. To round off the day, the pupils took pictures and collected autographs from the VIP panel.
“Delighted to have supported Show Racism the Red Card’s event at Dumbarton Football Club and in doing so welcoming the young eyes and ears of the wider community of Dumbarton as well, a fantastic day was had by all and we hope to see everybody again.”
– Sean Roberts, Event Planner at Dumbarton Football Club
Via X, Douglas McAllister MP shared:
“I attended Dumbarton FC‘s ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ event and took part in their Q&A with local school pupils. Racism has no place in our country. I was very impressed by their curiosity, passion for anti-racism and knowledge on the topics of race, racism, and anti-racism”
