#SRtRCSpotlight: Engaging Young Minds in East Renfrewshire
In our second year of partnership with St Clare’s Primary School, we visited both Primary 6 classes. The pupils took part in our foundational anti-racism workshop, learning about key words and concepts surrounding the topic of racism. The pupils were extremely engaged and took part in many mature discussions including applying key terms such as Unconscious bias, stereotypes and gatekeeping to a case study. Both classes asked superb questions which really highlighted their interest and engagement.
“This workshop provided the pupils with a better understanding of the term ‘racism’ and introduced the 4 pillars of unconscious bias, discrimination, stereotypes and gate-keeping. There were lots of opportunities for the children to spot and stop racism. It was a great morning and really inspiring.”
– Craig McKeegan, P6 teacher
“The Show Racism the Red Card workshops are an important part of our school approach to embrace differences and equip children with the knowledge and skills for learning and life. Our school Vision, Values and Aims encourage all learners to support and challenge everyone to be their best self and be Life Ready. We aim for all of our learners to be upstanders. This workshop is a valuable opportunity to deepen and develop all learners understanding of their own rights, the rights of others and how to actively challenge racism.”
– Katrina Flaherty, DHT.
