#SRtRCSpotlight: Educating & Empowering Scotland’s Next Generation

This week, we’re shining a light on the incredible work of our Scottish office and the impactful anti-racism education they’re delivering to schools across the region.

Recently, our anti-racism educators visited St. Mary’s Primary in Paisley to lead workshops with P4/5, P5, and P6 classes. The sessions focused on foundational anti-racism concepts, introducing students to key terms like stereotypes, unconscious bias, gatekeeping and discrimination.

But it wasn’t just theory—students put their learning into practice! Using a football camp case study, the classes explored real-world scenarios, with a particular focus on verbal abuse as a form of racism. The students were eager to share their thoughts and experiences, sparking meaningful discussions.

It was a day full of engagement and learning, with over 80 pupils participating. The students’ energy and enthusiasm were truly inspiring!

Don’t just take our word for it—here’s what the school had to say:

“Show Racism the Red Card was very well presented, interesting and informative. Terms like unconscious bias, stereotypes, discrimination and gatekeeping were discussed at great length with a historical and current context. Presenter spoke to the children about using this vocabulary when talking about racism. Children were supported in what to do if they see racism in the form of the 5 D’s – Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, and Direct. There were lots of opportunities for discussion and pupil voice during the workshop. Thank you!”

– Mrs Alison Brady (Acting Principal Teacher)

“I thought Show Racism the Red Card was really good because it showed us how to be kind to people and what to do if we see people being racist”

– Heritage Olukole (P5)

We’re proud of the work our Scottish team is doing to empower young minds and create a more inclusive future. Stay tuned for more updates on our anti-racism initiatives!
