#SRtRCSpotlight: Building foundations with pupils from St Mary’s Primary School, Glasgow.

This week we visited St. Mary’s Primary school, in Maryhill, Glasgow @stmarysmaryhill.

We delivered workshops from P1 all the way through to P7. When working with the lower half of the school, we explored what we have in common as well as what differs from person to person. Through discussions and drawings, the pupils thoroughly recognised and celebrated our differences. The pupils chatted about how we can include everyone and how we can make a change in tackling racism.

Working with the upper school, we looked at our foundational anti-racism workshop which focuses on recognising then challenging bias and stereotypes within our society. The pupils learned how we can be anti-racist within the school and other places and recognising it is not enough to stand back.

“Our anti racism workshop was really good, we learned about different types of racism and how they can affect people. I’m going to make sure that if I see anyone being racist I will tell an adult and make sure that I ask the person if they are ok because that’s what being anti racist means.”

“The anti-racism workshop that my class had today was very informative. It was pitched at a level the children could clearly understand and they now all have a good idea of what racism is and what they need to do to be an anti-racist person.”
