#SRtRCSpotlight: Bolton Wanderer’s Biggest Anti-Racism Event
Over 900 young minds gathered at the Toughsheet Community Stadium last month for a powerful lesson—not just in football, but in fairness, respect and the fight against racism.
This marked the start of Show Racism the Red Card’s (SRtRC) five-day annual collaboration with Bolton Wanderers in the Community (BWitC)—one of the largest educational initiatives we deliver. What began as a one-day event has now expanded to five, ensuring the anti-racism message reaches every corner of Bolton.
Throughout the week, students took part in interactive morning sessions tackling topics such as anti-racism and anti-hate crime. They explored perception, stereotypes, and reporting, while learning how discrimination impacts lives – and how to support those affected. The young people also enjoyed exclusive stadium tours, bringing them closer to the matchday experience of their local heroes.
After lunch, BWitC staff led creative workshops, where students reflected on what they’d learned. They then shared their insights with a special guest panel, quizzing them on discrimination and lived experiences. These discussions help shape a safer, more inclusive future – not just for attendees, but for their communities too.
A major highlight came midweek, when Bolton Wanderers Chairman Sharon Brittan made an inspirational appearance. As a woman leading a football club, she’s breaking barriers – and her presence reinforced the club’s commitment to driving positive change.
“The impact’s huge,” Sharon reflected.
“These children leave here with knowledge and understanding. They’ll talk to their families, their friends… The ripple effect is immeasurable. It’s heartwarming and wonderful.”
SRtRC would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone at the club & foundation and everyone who attended. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of:
