#SRtRCSpotlight: Allyship with Chryston Primary School

Now that schools in Scotland have returned from their beautiful summer break, our Scottish education team have jumped straight back into delivering anti-racism education in schools.

Recently, they visited the senior end of the school at Chryston Primary in North Lanarkshire.

Show Racism the Red Card Scotland are proud to support Chryston Primary in carrying on their current work of being a Rights Respecting School. The pupils took part in our foundational anti-racism workshop that centred around topics like being actively anti-racist and what makes a good ally.

Across all four of the classes, the pupils were extremely engaging in the tasks around stereotypes and the effects it can have on certain groups of people. The pupils can be extremely proud of their effort and engagement across the sessions.

Comments from the pupils:

“The workshop was really good. We learned a lot about how to fight against racism. Thank you”

“I learned about having an unconscious bias. The workshop reminded us to not treat people differently just because of their skin colour. Thank you for visiting us, we really enjoyed it”

“We learned a lot about racism it was really educational. Kaela made it interesting and gave us lots of information”

We hope that with these sessions, we have kickstarted and supported the young people’s anti-racism journeys by equipping them with the understanding of what makes a good ally.

Allyship is needed now more than ever with the divide we witness in the UK community and these young students are part of the anti-racism movement that bring about the changes we need to remain and move forward united.

“Kaela made the session engaging and educational for the children. She used lots of relatable examples to share information. The children really enjoyed it.”     – Teacher
