SRtRC calling for councillors’ support

SRTRC are calling on Councillors throughout the UK to use some of their ward budgets to support Wear Red Day and our anti-racism educational work.
Councillors wanting to know more about how they can support our work can email info@theredcard.org
Mary Foy MP comments on her experience of supporting SRTRC during her time at Gateshead Council:
As a councillor on Gateshead Council I was allocated a pot of money to support community projects. Being aware of the brilliant education work SRtRC carried out in schools I and my councillor colleagues in my ward and the neighbouring ward agreed to pool our budget and fund a series of education sessions in a local venue for local school children and their parents. I attended a session and was not disappointed. The engagement was fabulous and everyone had fun as well as being educated on the impact of everyday racism on footballers and people in the local community of Birtley. I am confident that the young people and adults who took part came away well prepared to think about their own behaviour and even challenge others when they encounter negative attitudes and stereotyping.
Myself and council colleagues were so impressed we went on to share with others and have a motion passed by the council to fund SRtRC for their ongoing work in schools in Gateshead.
