SRtRC at NAHT Conference 2023

On the 30th of November, Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) were invited by the National Association of Headteachers (NAHT) to speak to staff at their 2023 Conference, hosted at the De Vere Beaumont Estate, in Old Windsor. The NAHT are prioritising and introducing Equality and Diversity initiatives and hosted their biannual event across last week, and held a range of discussions across the event.

The talk saw collaboration between SRtRC’s Northeast Team and South Team, as Richey Henderson and Jack Cunningham joined-up to deliver 90-minute CPD training to 105 NAHT delegates. Led by Richey, from the Northeast ,and supported by Jack, from the South, the session focused on reducing Unconscious Biases and Recognizing Privilege. Through meaningful discussion and facilitator led activities, delegates learned and challenged their own pre-existing biases and began unpicking notions of privilege and power.

This was a great opportunity for SRtRC and highlighted the importance of Anti-Racism and Equality and Diversity within Education and the workplace. Continued collaboration between regions is essential to keep improving and adding value to SRtRC’s leading Anti-Racism education.
The workshop was extremely well received, with delegates having meaningful conversations with facilitators both during and after the session was delivered. The NAHT have said they want to have us back at their next conference in Summer 2024.

“It was an honour to speak on behalf of SRtRC at the NAHT Conference to discuss important issues such as Power and Privilege, and I hope we continue building our relationship with this fantastic organization. I had a excellent time delivering with Richey Henderson from SRtRC Northeast Team and look forward to more cross-team collaboration in the future”

– Jack Cunningham, SRtRC Educator, South.
