Spotlight: Cardinal Hume Catholic School Show Racism the Red Card

This week we focus on our North East team as part of our spotlight series where we shine a spotlight on our core educational work as charity, showcasing sessions and events from our different regional offices each week.
After a successful teacher training workshop with our team, Cardinal Hume Catholic School extended their anti-racism journey by inviting us in to conduct special assemblies with Years 7, 8 & 9, tailored to meet the needs of the school. To follow the assemblies, the school put together a full day of anti-racism activities for the students, created using information from the Teacher Training session, our Education Hub resources and their own personal knowledge.
Our team touched on topics including: what racism looks like today, different types of racism such as: internalised, interpersonal, systemic and institutional racism; stereotypes, how to challenge racism and also examples of scenarios for the young people to discuss.
Ben Stevenson – Associate Deputy Headteacher said: “Thanks so much for today. The feedback I have had from the staff has been brilliant! Hopefully the start of a brilliant relationship between SRTRC and our school!”
He also expressed his thanks to all of our team for the work they put in to facilitate the requirements of the school and he looks forward to working with us next academic year. To include teacher training for the rest of their staff and individual year group workshops.
