Nearly 100 MPs sign open letter following the abuse Jess Carter has faced
Following the news that Jess Carter was subjected to vile racist abuse on social media during the Euros tournament, Matt Western MP has written to major social media companies, urging them to take stronger action against the racism and misogyny on their platforms. Nearly 100 MPs have joined Matt in signing the letter.
Jess, who is originally from Warwick – part of Matt’s Warwick and Leamington constituency – has made her hometown incredibly proud. Seeing her face such abuse online is disheartening, yet sadly, it’s all too familiar.
Social media companies must take responsibility for how they tackle hate speech, misogyny, and racism on their platforms.
