Anti-Racism with Hibernian FC
In a crucial step towards fostering a more inclusive environment, the first team players at Hibernian FC recently participated in an eye-opening anti-racism workshop. The session focused on deepening their understanding of stereotypes, biases, and gatekeeping, shedding light on how these factors contribute to the experience of racism.
In addition, they explored the concept of microaggressions and discussed real-life examples that encompass not only race but also gender and other defining characteristics.
A key component of the workshop involved learning how to address prejudiced attitudes in a non-confrontational yet effective manner. The discussions highlighted practical approaches to creating an inclusive and positive team culture, which benefits both team members and those who look up to them—particularly their fans.

The session fostered a positive atmosphere, encouraging open conversations and the exchange of ideas. Teammates shared personal experiences and insights, engaging with each other and the facilitator, making it a collaborative and meaningful learning experience.
“This is a promising start in their anti-racism journey,” said Kaela, Education Worker in Scotland.
We look forward to working with more first teams in the future, building on this foundation and continuing the important work of promoting inclusivity. As the team continues to champion inclusivity and diversity, this session marks a vital step in creating a culture of respect and understanding that extends far beyond the playing field.
