This month has seen the Show Racism the Red Card Scotland team engage with diverse groups and educational settings.
In May, Show Racism the Red Card Scotland delivered:
9 primary school workshops
3 football club workshops
Working with 520 young people
This month, we were allocated a stall at the NASUWT Scotland Conference, before holding a showcase of the effectiveness and need for more anti-racism education, hosted by our longest council partner, Perth and Kinross Council.
“I was delighted to attend Show Racism the Red Card’s showcase event today with Balhousie and Kinnoull Primary. What a fantastic event dispelling some common myths and encouraging tolerance and inclusion. As always, the kids were empowered with knowledge and engaged well - they were a credit to their schools!”
- Councillor John Duff, Perth City North
We were delighted to be invited along to the PFA Scotland Player of the Year Awards, the most exciting off-the-pitch event in the footballing calendar. This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the players and staff who support us all year round.
As part of our Tackling Racism in Grassroots programme with the Scottish Football Partnership, we visited Scottish Junior Cup 2018/19 Champions Auchinleck Talbot’s youth academy.
“The night was a total success both in terms of education and participation from our young players. The coaching session on the pitch went down a treat as well with Auchinleck Talbot’s 1st team manager Tommy Sloan, club captain Willie Lyle and players Neil McPherson & Jamie Glasgow taking part in the session, leaving the young people in awe training with their heroes.
Special mention to Show Racism the Red Card’s Michael Weir & Chris Priestley who delivered a first class and very informative education session to all. The guys are naturals and kept everyone's attention, including the coaches, fully focused throughout the night.”
- Campbell Peden, Head of Youth Academy, Auchinleck Talbot FC
Meanwhile we held a Red Card display during all Scottish Youth FA Cup Finals taking place over the weekend of 17th May at Airdrieonian’s Penny Cars Stadium.
