June has been jam-packed full of educational activities including three club events.
In June, Show Racism the Red Card Scotland delivered:
5 primary school workshops
3 football club workshops
Working with 495 young people
This month, we hosted three club educational club events at Hampden Park, Celtic Park and Ibrox Stadium. The club events were some of the most exciting we have hosted yet with over 250 young people coming along in total.
After holding three different anti-racism workshops with local primary schools, we surprised each school with a fourth and final workshop at their local football stadium. You can read more about our Hampden, Celtic & Rangers educational club events here on our website.
We were then delighted to send off the Scotland Women’s National Team to the World Cup by producing a Red Card poster which has kindly been sponsored by ASLEF, Dallas McMillan, Falkirk Council, GMB Union, PFA Scotland, RMT Union, Unite the Union and Unison Scotland. The posters are now being distributed by our sponsors and are making their way to schools and offices nationwide.
As a celebration of our longstanding partnership with Police Scotland in delivering hate crime education within our workshops, we put together two teams, with some familiar faces among them, in a match between Show Racism the Red Card Scotland and Police Scotland. Notable players included Gerry Britton (ex-Partick Thistle), Gordon Smith (former SFA Chief Executive), Sanjeev Kohli (Still Game), Peter Martin (PLZ Soccer) as well as current stars in Cheryl McCulloch, Kathleen McGovern, Cody Hay of Celtic FC.
Coached by current Celtic Women’s FC Manager Eddie Wolecki Black, Show Racism the Red Card ran out 3-2 winners thanks to a double by striker Kwaku Nyame and a great finish by Gerry Britton.
