Communications Officer Vacancy

Show Racism the Red Card are seeking to recruit a Communications Officer to work as part of the Team based in North Shields.

21 hours per week

NJC Pay Scale 12 - 17 - £21,589 - £23,836 (pro rata)

6% pension

The Communications Officer will help to support staff, stakeholders and public engagement through excellent and creative written, digital and face-to-face communication.

The role covers a broad range of communications functions and channels including:

·         media relations and reputation management

·         staff, service user, stakeholder and public communications and engagement

·         campaign support

·         digital communications (including web and social media content management)


The post holder will work across all projects and campaigns.

Key Tasks 

· Acting as a point of contact for media enquiries, research and draft responses and brief journalists

 · Proactively managing media, photography and video opportunities, ensuring consistency of messages

 · Researching, drafting and distributing high quality publications for external stakeholders and local, national and specialist media

 · Supporting face to face engagement opportunities with staff, stakeholders and service users at events, meetings and workshops

 · Liaising with external agencies for production of publications, digital content and specialist communications services (i.e. video) following policy and procedure

 · Producing high quality internal communications, including e-bulletins, publications and staff briefing materials 

·  Producing high quality external communications, including information, e-bulletins, website content, social media output, blogs etc

 · Developing and maintaining good working relationships and support for senior management colleagues

 · Developing and maintaining good working relationships across a complex network of stakeholders and partner agencies, ensuring that partners are briefed on issues and that PR and publicity opportunities are maximised

 · Developing and maintaining relevant databases and distribution lists in liaison with Senior Management Team, including media contacts, media logs, media monitoring, distribution lists, stakeholder contacts etc

 ·  Contributing to the development and maintenance of the website including the use of relevant content management systems

 · Helping to develop and manage the use of all social media accounts - including developing excellent content and proficiency in using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media – following social media policies and guidelines

·  To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as decided by the Chief Executive


The successful applicant will need to demonstrate:

·  Professional experience in a relevant area i.e. public relations, marketing, journalism

 · Good knowledge and experience of media relations; including writing Press Releases, securing coverage and experience of handling media enquiries / briefing journalists

 · Knowledge and experience of producing high quality and creative information for the public; including design, print and digital communications

 · Specialist knowledge and experience of digital communications, including: website content management systems, social media management, blogs, website analytics, etc

 ·  Experience of writing excellent and engaging content for a variety of audiences

 ·  Excellent interpersonal skills and be confident when presenting themselves and their ideas to a wide range of people

 ·  Good project management skills for the planning of publications, events and campaigns

 ·  Knowledge of GDPR legislation

 ·  Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills

 ·  Ability to meet specific deadlines under pressure
