Last weekend saw players showing their support for Show Racism the Red Card at the 2019 Community Cohesion Cup final at the Cardiff City stadium.
The Community Cohesion Cup is a community tournament featuring teams made up of players from Yemen, Kurdish and Bangladesh communities. Teams battle it out to win the right to play at the Cardiff City stadium in a final against a South Wales Police and ex pros team.
The project uses the power of football to bring communities together and break down barriers.
The 2019 final saw a Bangladesh team take to the field to face a side made up of a range of former professional players and South Wales police staff, that also included presenter Jason Mohammed.
Prior to kick off players from both teams showed their support for the campaign by warming up in Show Racism the Red Card bibs, while mascots held up red cards as the teams gathered for kick off.
In a closely contested game the SWP and ex pros team won the match 3-2 to claim the 2019 Cohesion Cup.
Jason Webber represented Show Racism the Red Card at the match helping to manage the SWP and ex pros team to victory.
“The Community Cohesion Cup is a fantastic project that brings communities together through the love and power of football. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for many to play in such a fantastic stadium and we are grateful to the South Wales Police for partnering with our campaign and for everyone showing their support for anti-racism in the final.” - Jason Webber - Campaign Coordinator Wales.
