Show Racism the Red Card is delighted to announce that England manager, Gareth Southgate, will feature on the new educational film which is set to be released in October 2018. The updated film will also feature interviews with a number of Southgate's 2018 World Cup squad including England captain, Harry Kane.
Prior to the release of the film, Show Racism the Red Card have released a clip of the interview with the England manager, please see below. In the clip Southgate talks about his own personal experiences of racism and shares his advice on what he would tell somebody who is experiencing racism.
He said: “I have played in matches where there was racist chanting.
“I have witnessed language from people in social circles that was unacceptable and pretty quickly, you make it clear you don’t find that appropriate behaviour.
“I think sometimes people - generationally - use language that in previous times might have been deemed as acceptable and now clearly is not.”
The new film, which is expected to be first shown in parliament in October, features interviews from World Cup stars such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and former Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez also features, as well as Arsenals’ Mesut Ozil, Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas, and Liverpool Ladies Captain Gemma Bonner.
Show Racism the Red Card Chief Executive, Ged Grebby, said:
“We were very pleased Gareth gave us access to some of the best players in England. There’s been a rise in racism around Islamophobia and anti-immigration. They are two of the key issues we’ll be looking at in the new film.
“The goal when we started was challenging racism by using football as an anti-racism model. If anything in 2018, that’s stronger than before and it’s great to see players putting the time back."
