The GMB have been major sponsors of Show Racism the Red Card for the last 3 years and it was great to see their congress endorse Wear Red Day for the second year in a row. We held a stall from Monday to Tuesday 4th and 5th June which was very well received by delegates.
The fringe meeting on Tuesday 5th June was well attended and heard inspiring speeches from Stephen Cavalier (CEO of Thompsons Solicitors); Simone Pound (Head of Equality at the PFA); Taranjit Chana (GMB Equality and London region) and Tim Roache (General Secretary of the GMB).
Our thanks go to Thompsons Solicitors for sponsoring the meeting.
Ged Grebby, Chief Exectuive of Show Racism the Red Card, said;
“We are indebted to both Tim Roache and Taranjit Chana for not only speaking at the GMB fringe meeting but ensuring that Show Racism the Red Card is now central to the GMB’s anti-racism strategy. Both Tim and Taranjit mentioned the poisonous nature of the Football Lads Alliance in their speeches and the need to combat racism through using education. We look forward to another successful year working alongside GMB members and branches to combat racism in the workplace.”
GMB General Secretary, Tim Roache, said;
"GMB always has and always will tackle racism wherever it raises its ugly head. We work closely with a number of organisations but are very proud that this is our third year as a major sponsor of Show Racism the Red Card. No-one is born racist, so what better way to tackle racism than with young people through their two passions of education and sport. A perfect combination just like GMB and SRtRC."
We showed this winning film from Terrace Road Primary School in Swansea at the fringe meeting and it's safe to say it stole the show.
