Fleetwood Town FC hosted an educational event at Poolfoot Farm Training Centre which saw former England international, Trevor Sinclair, and Head Coach, Joey Barton, take part in a Q&A session.
The children from Sacred Hearts Primary arrived at Fleetwood’s training ground and were tasked to come up with questions in a workshop, based around diversity and stereotyping, that they could ask both head coach Joey Barton and Sinclair at a question and answer panel later on in the day.
The children were then shown an educational video, which had footballing stars like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Eniola Aluko, about racism in football and how it should be shown the red card. The footballers spoke about personal experiences and how they would report cases of racism in the sporting world.
After this, the children then asked their questions to Barton and Sinclair in an educational press conference, with the best questions winning signed shirts and posters from the panel. Once the panel was finished, the students went up to the front and picked up a personally signed poster which was designed to support the campaign.
Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank everyone at Fleetwood Town FC and Fleetwood Town Football in the Community for hosting the event and a special mention to Jake Anderton for all of his hard work in organising the event. A big thank you to Joey Barton and Trevor Sinclair for taking the time to speak with the young people. Thank you to the Professional Footballers Association for supporting the event and making it possible. And finally, thank you to all of the young people for their frank and honest engagement throughout.
