Announcement from the Football Association.
Show Racism the Red Card note today’s announcement from the Football Association that an independent panel has found Jonjo Shelvey guilty of using racially abusive language.
A fine of £100,000 has been levied in addition to a five game ban and Jonjo Shelvey has also been ordered to attend an FA education course.
As an educational charity Show Racism the Red Card recognise the power of education in tackling racism and welcome any measures to help people understand the potential effects and consequences of racist behaviour and language.
All sanctions have been set aside pending consideration for an appeal. The FA are yet to publicise the written reasons for the decision and the player has seven days to appeal the decision.
It is important that allegations of racist abuse are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly, it is equally important to allow due and proper process to take its course.
