Tuesday 26th of January saw team Scotland make their way to the Scottish Parliament to launch Show Racism the Red Card’s newest educational resource, 'Immigration: What’s the Story’; a film exploring the issues faced by immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
Alex Neil MSP, (MSP for Airdrie & Shotts and Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Communities and Pensioners' Rights) kindly hosted the event, and spoke of “inequality [being] at the heart of the Scottish Government’s work, and eradicating racism and bigotry is a key element of that”.
The night was well attended by community members, educational representatives and MSPs. Tony Higgins (Fifpro) chaired the event, and strong speeches were given on the night by Alex Neil MSP, SRtRC Scotland Campaign Manager Nicola Hay, SRtRC Chief Executive Ged Grebby, and SRtRC Scotland Education Worker Gillian Eunson.
Gillian gave an insightful view to the educational work of SRtRC Scotland and their work in assisting local authorities in resettling refugees. Read Gillian's full speech here.
SRtRC would like to thank Alex Neil MSP, the Scottish Government, Khalida Hussain (VAF), EIS, Education Scotland, Police Scotland, the SFA, Tony Higgins (Fifpro), Unite the Union and Elaine Dougall for the kind sponsorship of the catering, and all other community members and MSPs who supported us on the night.
