Delivering interactive anti-racism education throughout Scotland
Show Racism the Red Card is working with football clubs throughout 2015/2016 to organise educational events for young people. For more information or to arrange attendance please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
12 educational events with football clubs were organised during 2014-15, reaching a combined audience of over 1080 young people. During the 2015/16 season the Show Racism the Red Card campaign will be organising educational events that focus on racism with a particular emphasis on the difficulties faced by immigrants as well refuges whilst simultaneously celebrating the positive impact of immigration in Scotland.
Club events are full day events, at which young people participate in a carousel of anti-racism workshops that are facilitated by our wonderful Education Team, Gillian Eunson and Donna Matthews as well as our Team of Ex-Professional Footballers Derek Ferguson, Michael Weir and Steven Bell.
Young people attending the Educational Club events also place their ‘reporter hats’ on and ask a panel of current professional Footballers questions pertaining to racism not only in the game but in larger society. Young people keep anti-racism messages alive in their schools by compiling a newspaper article on what they learned at the club event.
Show Racism the Red Card has already delivered two extremely successful events this year, one at Celtic FC and the other at Dundee United FC. Dundee United was a particularly great event, as the panel of Professional Footballers was made up of emigrants and a former Bosnian refugee, which allowed for young people to explore what it feels like to come from another country for a variety of reasons.
