Manisha Tailor an Clint Easton visit Roysia Middle School on 9.10.15
We learned about people and where they are born as well as about respecting each other’s feelings and how important this is
Students at Roysia Middle School
Show Racism the Red Card in association with herts for Learning visited Roysia Middle School on the 9.10.15. Experienced educators and coaches Manisha Tailor and Clint Easton worked with year groups 7 and 8 which consisted of 80 children. Students delved into the issues surrounding racism and stereotypes after watching our SRtRC film. "The question and answer session was addressed very well and posed engaging questions. As a school we found out that many of our young people speak different languages at home that we didn’t even know about! This has opened up a whole new landscape of ideas and the students learned key ideas that they didn’t know before." Students then went outside for a fitness session where they had fun, and learnt more about teamwork and respect. "The football session gave a nice break to the structure of the morning. It was a good morning!” (Teachers, Roysia Middle School).
Students really enjoyed the day “We learned that racism isn’t just about the colour of your skin – it is also about nationality, religion and culture. We also learned about people and where they are born as well as about respecting each other’s feelings and how important this is. We enjoyed the poster session and working in groups. We also liked the football session because it was fun and we were able to connect with children we normally do not talk to.” (Year 7 & 8 pupils, Roysia Middle School).
Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank students and staff at Roysia Middle School for welcoming us into your wonderful school.
