SRtRC attend the TUC Union Learn conference on the 6.7.15
Union Learn with the TUC hosted a really great day full of interesting speakers and useful information. We would like to thank Union Learn for all their continued hard work. 'Justice for all' - Frances O'Grady
Laura Watkins, Campaign Support Worker
On Monday the 6th of July, Show Racism the Red Card attended the union learn conference in association with the TUC, at Congress House in London.
Attending the day was Manisha Tailor, one of our educators, and Laura Watkins, the campaign support worker for the South.
Delegates were kept very engaged by great speeches from Frances O'Grady, the TUC general secretary among others, and great comedy by Rhona Cameron. One really interesting and inspiring part of the day included a film and panel Q and A of young apprentices. This discussed what businesses had to do to make sure that apprenticeships were worthwhile, and how young people could benefit. One of the main themes was that we have to stop thinking that gifted young people must go to university, and the rest take part in a vocational apprenticeship. Apprenticeships can be good for many.
After thought-provoking talks we then broke into workshops where we delivered an overview of the work we are doing in hate crime. The attendees had great questions about the work we are doing, and the workshop was followed by a lively discussion.
SRtRC would like to thank Union Learn and the TUC for a great day.
