Show Racism the Red Card worked in partnership with Herts for Learning for a great day of learning and fun.
It was a great day; the behaviour or the children from all three schools was exemplary. The questions that they posed to the panel showed that they learnt a lot from the day and had a great understanding of the issues. I would like to say a big thank you to Watford FC and Herts for Learning for their continued support.
Steve Goodsell, regional manager
Around 100 students from local schools Sacred Heart, Leys Primary and Kingsway Juniors were invited on the 1/4/15 to take part in workshops held at Watford Football Club.
The day began with a brief introduction by regional manager Steve Goodsell and educators Osei Sankofa and Clint Easton. Students had an anti-racism workshop with our inspirational educators which focused on terms and definitions, and also discussed myths around stereotypes; using specially developed resources we worked with students to encourage participation and discussion, and students came back with some really interesting comments.
The students then went straight into watching our SRtRC DVD. The film features Ryan Giggs, Thierry Henry and Rachel Yankey among others talking about the dangers of racism and their own personal experiences.
They were then treated to a panel comprised of current Watford player Lloyd Doyley and Osei and Clint from SRtRC. The students had a great experience meeting Lloyd as he is the longest serving player having played for the team since 2001 and is a graduate of the Watford Football Academy.
The students got to test the panel with some very hard questions, from which the three best were picked with the winners receiving a SRtRC T-shirt and mini football. All of the children were given SRtRC wristbands, magazines and football club posters, autographed by Lloyd, Osei and Clint.
Children from all 3 schools sat in the stands for a big Team photo and cheered for The Hornets as they make a final push for promotion to the Premiership!
Show Racism the Red Card would like to sincerely thank Watford FC and Herts for Learning for their continued support to our campaign.
