On the 5th and 18th of March Buckinghamshire Council held two conferences, one for teachers and one for students, talking about preventing bullying in schools
Show Racism the Red Card has been working in partnership with Buckinghamshire County Council for a number of years to provide school workshops and training.
On the 5/3/15 at the Gateway Conference Centre in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire CC organised an event for Primary School teachers with guests talking about bullying prevention. Show Racism the Red Card did an hour long presentation on barriers to promoting diversity and equality. The mix of speakers on the day ensured that teachers had a great time and had a lot to think about after the day, they said that the SRtRC talk had ‘inspiring presenters’ and was ‘very engaging’. Francis Duku and Lionel Morgan presented the workshop on the day and found the whole experience very positive, and the teachers very engaged with the subject matter and eager to help their students and schools make positive steps.
Buckinghamshire CC arranged another conference for the 18/3/15 where 6 or 7 student representatives from 16 different secondary schools arrived to take part in workshops focused around bullying prevention. This event had many presentations including ones by SRtRC, Stonewall and Dr Mark Cain from Oxford Brookes University. It was inspiring to see so many young people really engaged with the subject matter and so committed to making real changes. Nearly 90% of these students thought that our workshops were ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’, and Francis Duku and Manisha Tailor certainly had a great time working with them on a talk themed ‘Promoting Equality & Tackling Racism and Other Forms of Extremism’. We hope that students got a lot from this great day, and go back to their schools with lots of new ideas.
SRtRC would like to thanks Buckinghamshire County Council for their support and hard work organising an excellent set of conferences again this year.
