On the 19/9/14 Show Racism the Red Card in association with the PCC launched a new series of workshops in Essex, with a focus on hate crime.
The project was well received by pupils and teachers alike, and it was gratifying to hear that children took the issues seriously and showed an interest in playing their part in tackling hate crime.

On Friday 19th September Show Racism the Red Card launched a pilot project in Essex running our usual workshop on racism but with a focus on Hate Crime as a whole. The project is being funded through the Essex PCC as one of three Pathfinder initiatives, all with the aim of increasing awareness of Hate Crime and how to report it.
A hate incident is any incident, whether a crime or not, which is perceived by anyone to be motivated by hostility or prejudice of someone or a group of people because of their race, religion, sexuality, gender, disability, or sexual identity.
The project was launched in Tilbury, Thurrock and will move on to Harlow, Basildon and Colchester. Show Racism the Red Card educators will help children understand how to recognise, challenge and report incidents of hate crime in any of its forms. Additional Student and Parent support sessions will also be offered which will be attended by our Team and local Police and Youth Services.
