We attended the Book People Stadium for our event with Bangor City FC supported by North Wales Police
Young people from Ysgol Cae Top Primary School attended the ground to learn about racism in football and society.
Education worker Aimee Jones led the group through an educational workshop which included discussions about what racism is and stereotypes that exist in society.
The pupils had the opportunity to take part in a role play press conference asking questions on racism to Bangor City FC manager Nev Powell, North Wales Police officer Gary Robertshaw and campaign worker Jason Webber.
After the event the pupils will be producing a newspaper article about racism from what they have learnt at the event.
The best asked questions won the opportunity to be a mascot at a up coming game and meet the players along with a SRtRC goodie bag.
All the young people had a Bangor City FC poster signed by Nev.
PC Gary Robertshaw one of North Wales Police’s dedicated Diversity Officers, said "I'm really pleased that North Wales Police is working with Show Racism the Red Card. It’s really important that victims of racial hate crime report incidents to the Police or other statutory bodies.
"Research shows that not everyone reports incidents and that's why it’s important we work with our partners to increase confidence. The event held today allows us to discuss the issues with young people and explain how we can provide support and target offenders"
The officer concluded “During the current ‘reporting’ year NWP have received 172 complaints of racial hate crime which is 35% fewer than the same period last year. By raising awareness we hope to promote and encourage disclosure of these crimes which I believe are underreported. On this occasion our aim is to use football as a way to deliver and educate young people whilst working with them.”
The event was funded by the Big Lottery, Football Association of Wales and the Welsh Government.
