More details about the formation of 'We Say No To Racism'
In the first part of the seminar the participants had the opportunity to be informed about the experience of the antiracist projects related to sports and more specifically about the “Show Racism the Red Card” projects implemented in UK and Norway as well as the “Let’s kick racism out of stadiums” project implemented in Poland.
The speakers were Ged Grebby from the British campaign “Show Racism the Red Card”, Trygve Augestad from the organization Norwegian People’s Aid and Jacek Purski from the Polish “Never Again” Association.
The second part was devoted to the Greek experience from the implementation of educational projects for combating racism. The speakers were Pavlos Haramis (president of the Center for Research and Documentation of the Secondary Education Teachers Union) and Spyros Rizakos (President of Ngo AIΤIMA). Pavlos Haramis spoke about Intercultural Education and the activity of the Center for Research and Documentation, while Spyros Rizakos talked about the AITIMA project for awareness raising of pupils on refugee issues.
In the third part the floor was given to the participants in order to express their views. The participants expressed their belief that it will be very helpful to try to combat racism in Greece by using the element of sport. They also stated that they are willing to contribute to the formation and implementation of such a project.
At the end of the seminar the president of Ngo AITIMA Spyros Rizakos invited the participants to a conference which will be held in mid-February in order to discuss the form that such a project can take.
Show Racism the Red Card looks forward to watching the project develop and will continue to support 'We Say No To Racism' in any way we can.
