100 Year 5&6 pupils enjoy afternoon with the Blues
St Andrew’s Stadium played host to a Show Racism the Red Card educational event for 100 Year 5&6 pupils from Birmingham primary schools on Tuesday 5th November.
The young people from St Bernadette’s, Montgomery and Yarnfield Primary Schools took part in a SRtRC workshop which examined stereotypes and where they come from and a definition of racism.
Following the workshop, the audience were able to watch a screening of the Show Racism the Red Card film and prepare to ask questions about racism to a panel of special guests.
Birmingham City FC players Dan Burn and Tom Adeyemi were able to attend and take questions from the young people, completing the panel was former professional footballer and SRtRC Honorary Patron Dean Gordon.
There was no shortage of questions for the panel about their experiences of racism in sport and in society and Tom, Dan and Dean were happy to share their thoughts and advice.
The club provided a fantastic prize of a signed BCFC ball for the panel’s favourite question of the afternoon, SRtRC were able to provide T-Shirts which the players were happy to sign for the runners up.
All of the young people were able to take away a Birmingham City FC / Show Racism the Red Card poster signed by Dan and Tom as well as a SRtRC goody bag, including a copy of our most recent magazine.
SRtRC would like to thank the players, teachers and young people who made this event so successful. Massive thanks go to Birmingham City FC for hosting the event and we will look forward to many more with the Blues in the future.
