SRtRC message delivered to over 100 young people at full-day event
Norwich City FC Study Support Centre, Norfolk Youth Offending Team, Norfolk Black History Month and Show Racism the Red Card came together to organise a fantastic full-day event for Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils at Carrow Road.
A carousel of workshops in the morning saw young people from four Norfolk secondary schools work with Show Racism the Red Card examining stereotypes, work with Norfolk Youth Offending Team to define Hate Crime and research local and international role-models with Norfolk Black History Month.
The young people seemed to take a lot from the sessions, participating fully and raising interesting points and questions. SRtRC’s full day events are great for introducing the subject of racism and providing inspiration for the Question and Answer session with role-models in the afternoon.
The afternoon session began with a re-cap of the morning’s activities and an activity which highlighted that we all carry prejudice and preconceptions with us. The Show Racism the Red Card educational film was then screened.
Joining the panel for the Question and Answer session were SRtRC Honorary Patron and former Norwich City FC player Clint Easton, Norwich City FC’s Safeguarding Manager, Tony Hedges and special guests club captain Sebastien Bassong and England U-21 and NCFC midfielder Nathan Redmond.
There were some excellent questions to the panel and some prizes from SRtRC and Norwich City FC for the panel’s favourites. SRtRC had some T-Shirts for the top three questions and Norwich City FC were able to provide a signed ball for the top question of the day.
The event attracted quite a lot of media coverage including the club’s own website, Sky Sports, ITV Anglia, EDP 24 and Mustard TV.

Big thanks also go to Mabel Regis from Norfolk Black History Month and Vicki Graystone and team from the Norfolk Youth Offending Team and Norfolk Police for their support and work on the day. SRtRC look forward to continuing our partnership with the club over the coming seasons,
