TNS FC become the first Welsh club to confirm an anti racism workshop in our new training project for their academy players and coaches.
Our Welsh office will be piloting anti racism workshops with Welsh clubs throughout the season and the Welsh Premier League champions are the first club to confirm a workshop in November at their stadium.
Cardiff City FC were the first pilot club to host player training in February last year, a similar session was delivered to their academy U-14s team which set the foundations for the new player and coach training project we have launched.
The workshop at TNS FC will take place the night before the clubs event with local school children supported by first team players.
The academy U-10s – 13s age group players and their coaches will be taking part in an anti racism workshop and will be educated about racism and how to deal with, and report racist incidents.
Players will also discuss terminology and what terms are unacceptable, along with the history behind these terms. Furthermore players will discuss the importance of their actions on social media websites and the consequences of miss conduct.
We are also in discussions with Welsh Premier League side Port Talbot Town FC and Football league side Wrexham FC on holding these workshops with their academy players and coaches.
The sessions are really important for helping to educated players on racism along with other equality strands to work towards eradicating racism from football and ensuring there is an inclusive and safe environment for young people to take part in sport and enjoy their experience that will hopefully enthuse them to continue to be invovled and live a healthy lifestyle.
Campaign Worker and project co-ordinator Jason Webber said “These workshops are something we have been aiming to deliver in Wales for some time. We feel that the workshops are essential to educate young players in Wales about racism, who are the next generation of professional athletes and role models in the community. This will go a long way towards the continued effort to challenge racism and racist attitudes in football.”
The campaign are aiming further ahead to deliver similar sessions to first team players and staff at football clubs in Wales.
