Charles Green, Chief Executive of Rangers FC, needs to apologise for publicly vocalising his use of the racist term “Paki”.
An important way of challenging racism is through education and a significant part of this education is looking at appropriate terminology. As a campaigning and educational charity we recommend that we should all regularly review our own language and actions, as we all have a role to play in safely challenging racism. Show Racism the Red Card recognise mistakes can be made but it is crucially important that these mistakes are acknowledged and amends are made.
As the Chief Executive of Rangers FC it is crucial that Charles Green apologises for his use of the racist term “Paki” and acknowledges his responsibility in the promotion of damaging messages to young people and society.
The campaign welcomes the confirmed Notice of Complaint from the Scottish Football Association to Charles Green, as it sends out a clear message that racism will not be tolerated in football or society and action will be taken - highlighting the Scottish Football Associations commitment to promoting a strong anti-racism message.
