Man City defender denies the allegation
Northumbria Police will investigate an allegation that Manchester City player Aleksander Kolarov made racist remarks during an argument with a supporter during Manchester City’s game with Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Several media outlets have reported that Kolarov, who was a substitute at the game, got into an argument with at least one supporter who was waving an Albanian flag. Northumbria Police confirmed they have received a complaint from a supporter alleging that racist language was used by the 27-year-old Serbian player. There is a history of tension between Serbia and Albania, particularly over the disputed Kosovo region.
It is understood that Aleksander Kolarov denies the allegation.
Manchester City and Newcastle United have so far not commented on the incident. More news to follow as the story develops.
