Show Racism the Red Card delivered an all day anti-racism / anti-sectarianism educational event at Peterhead FC on Thursday 22 November.
The event was organised in partnership with Abeerdeenshire Council, Grampian Regional Equality Council and Peterhead FC. This was the first educational event Show Racism the Red Card has delivered at Peterhead FC.
The event involved 82 primary seven pupils from Buchanhaven, Maud, Port Erroll and St Fergus Primary Schools. The event kicked off with the young people participating in a carousel of educational workshops where they learned about the causes and consequences of racism and sectarianism, empowering them to become active citizens safely challenging racism and sectarianism in the communities in which they live. Grampian Regional Equality Council also facilitated an engaging, interactive workshop for the young people.
During the afternoon session, the brand new Show Racism the Red Card film was screened, followed by an opportunity for the young people to pose questions on racism and sectarianism to a guest panel. The panel included: Peterhead FC first team player Dean Cowie, former professional footballers and current Show Racism the Red Card coaches / educators- Derek Ferguson and Michael Weir, along with representatives from Aberdeenshire Council and Grampain Regional Equality Council.
There were some great questions during the session and all of the young people were delighted to get photos taken with the players, who also signed autographs for everyone in attendance.
Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank everyone involved in making this very successful event happen and we look forward to returning to Peterhead FC next season.
