Over 200 Unite delegates attended Show Racism the Red Card's fringe meeting
Show Racism the Red Card was delighted to welcome Len McCluskey, General Secretary of Unite the Union to Show Racism the Red Card's fringe meeting, sponsored by Simpson Millar, Walker Smith Way & Leo Abse & Cohen.
Collette Cork-Hurst reported on the meeting:
"Over 200 Unite policy conference delegates attended the Show Racism the Red Card fringe meeting, chaired by Collette Cork-Hurst, Unite National Officer for Equalities. Len McCluskey, Unite General Secretary opened the meeting by applauding the good work undertaken by SRtRC, particularly educating young people on anti-racism. He gave his commitment to Unite continuing to support and work closely with SRtRC and encouraged members to get involved in their regions.
"Paul Mortimer, former professional footballer and Education Worker for Show Racism the Red Card, gave an overview of why we needed to educate young people, against a framework of racism in the media and rest of society and in an environment where they can speak openly and candidly about racism.
"Leroy Rosenior spoke movingly about his experiences as an ex-footballer and football manager and called for Unite members to join in the battle against racism because it can be won. There was a really positive response from Unite delegates and many are now keen to get involved, particularly at regional level."
Thank you to our sponsors and everyone who attended the fringe meeting - Show Racism the Red Card is really grateful for your support and looks forward to working with you in the year ahead.
