Our brand new educational resource receives positive feedback
Comments from those who have viewed the 'Homophobia: Lets Tackle it' DVD:
"“Homophobia: Let’s Tackle It” is a brilliant resource well designed to deal with a very serious problem. The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has been working with our allies to find a way to deal effectively with the prejudice against LGB and T people that is so strong in our national game. We think that you can’t separate homophobia and transphobia on the pitch or the terraces from prejudices existing more broadly in society: to challenge one, you have to challenge them all. And you have to start young. This package is a powerful weapon to challenge prejudice and it is ideally suited to use with young people in particular. We would certainly recommend it." - Peter, TUC
"I found the delivery to be very delicately handled given the subject matter and sensitivity of the issues discussed in the film. I am lucky that I have not experienced homophobic issues first hand however have spoken to people who have and did not know what to say until I saw the film and read the literature. I am grateful to you for this and wish you well in rolling it out" - Hugo, Barclays Wealth
Just a Ball Game? Would like to commend the team effort made by SRTRC and Northern Rock Foundation in producing their education packs and DVD's on tackling the difficult but necessary topics and issues around homophobia within the beautiful game of association football. Lindsay England founding director of the LGBT organisation said "We are proud to be working along side SRTRC in helping to deliver the correct messages to the general public that being LGBT should not be a barrier to anyone who wishes to be involved in football or indeed any physical activity." "So much time and hard work and research has been given to the production of the 'homophobia tackle it' publication and I now urge everyone, in particular those working with young people to obtain this resource and deliver it to help educate and understand LGBT people, celebrate their lives and eradicate homophobia." - Lindsay England, Just a ball game?
“We have come a long way in the fight to eradicate racism from football and slowly but surely we are getting there with homophobia (and transphobia) too. In order to ensure this work has lasting impact requires appropriate legislation and education. This very informative and excellently produced resource for schools, "Homophobia: Let's Tackle It!", by Show Racism the Red Card is exactly the kind of material required giving children and young people an ideal opportunity to gain a real understanding and awareness of the issue. The Gay Football Supporters' Network commends SRTRC for their fantastic work and urge all those working in this area to read and view it and ensure that it is distributed to as wide an audience as possible” – Chris Basiurski, Gay Football Supporters’ Network
