Show Racism the Red card Scotland delivered a successful teacher training event at Bathgate Academy on Fri 2nd March 2012.
Show Racism the Red Card’s Community Education team delivered a whole day of ‘Tackling Racism and Promoting Race Equality’ for primary and secondary teaching professionals from across West Lothian at Bathgate Academy.
The successful event is part of a brand new partnership in 2011/12 between West Lothian Council and Show Racism the Red Card which has included a series of professional development training for teachers on the subjects of promoting anti-racism and anti-sectarianism as well as a programme of anti-sectarianism workshop delivery with secondary one and secondary two pupils in five West Lothian high schools this school year.
Teachers were involved in a carousel of workshops throughout the day designed to assist teaching staff in recognizing and responding to racism and embedding race equality within the school curriculum. Approximately 45 teachers from many of the primary and secondary schools took part in the day as well as key guests form the local authority.
Dee Kinning, Education Coordinator said:
"We are delighted to be working with West Lothian during the current school year. The range of delivery we have been involved in, from workshop delivery with young people to small and large scale teacher training events which promotes our campaign message in tackling racism and sectarianism will be a shining example of best practice for our organisation. West Lothian Local Authority has a solid commitment to tackling inequality in all its guises and their partnership working with our campaign is just one example of this. We look forward to progressing the relationship with West Lothian well into the future."
