Bedford Charity Partnership Launch
Young people from Cauldwell Lower School Help to Launch Partnership
“We hope that schools in the Borough will make the most of this opportunity to educate our young people about the damage racist behaviour causes to all involved, and that teachers will feel more confident about tackling this complex subject in school”.The Bedford Charity (Harpur Trust)
Children from Cauldwell Lower School attended a Show Racism the Red Card event at Borough Hall to launch a new programme of anti-racism work throughout the borough funded by the Bedford Charity (Harpur Trust).
Pupils had the the opportunity to take part in an afternoon of fun activities including educational activities, watching a DVD featuring top footballers and the chance to ask questions on racism to a panel which included current MK Dons goalkeeper Dave Martin, and ex-professional footballers Luther Blissett and Paul Mortimer.
Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is a national anti-racism education charity which harnesses the high profile of footballers as anti-racism role-models. The charity will be delivering a programme of anti-racism education alongside fun football fitness sessions to young people throughout the borough over the coming year.
Sarah Soyei Regional Manager from Show Racism the Red Card said “We are really pleased that in this time of spending cuts The Bedford Charity has been able to support us in delivering anti-racism education to young people in Bedford. It is vital that young people are given the opportunity to express their concerns and learn about the damage of racism and prejudice in order to create a society where young people are able to create positive relationships and everybody feels safe and able to achieve.”
