Shaka joins calls for FIFA President to step down
"Sepp Blatter, during his time as FIFA President has somehow always managed to amaze the footballing world with comments that only prove him, and by extension FIFA, as self-absorbed and uncaring. His latest outburst though, carries far worse implications. To proclaim firstly that there is no racism in football, then to implore those racially abused on the football pitch to accept the hand of their abuser in recognition of being a minority and so, should expect no less in the heat of battle, is preposterous."
"He immediately offended everyone, regardless of race, who has ever found themselves abused just for being a minority on a football pitch, the entire struggle of minorities through the game's history who fought for the right to play the game they love, for the fans who have had to endure endless threats just to watch the beautiful game. In an era where players are still racially abused on the pitch by their opponents, where players are forced to leave football pitches just to escape the racial abuse of the fans, where some players still fear for the lives in the cities they call home all because of the colour of their skin, Mr. Blatter's comments could not be more condescending or ignorant. If FIFA wish to maintain any credibility as the guardians of the world's game Mr. Blatter has to be relieved of his duties NOW."
"To the players of yesteryear who endured so much for the game we love, to the players of today who continue to carry the flag, the game, as I, remains eternally grateful. To the fans who continue to risk harm in standing up against the ills as perpetrated by a few of their peers it is with you the future of this game lies, it is your hand we should all be shaking."
