The Scottish FA will showcase their continued support for Show Racism and Bigotry the Red Card’s anti-racism / anti-sectarian messages at the Scotland v Denmark Vauxhall International Challenge match on Wednesday 10 August 2011.
The new Show Racism the Red Card wristband will be promoted at the official pre-match press conference and anti-racism / anti-sectarian actions will be undertaken by mascots and players at the fixture. Additionally, anti-racism / anti-sectarian visuals will be present throughout the game, all of which will reinforce the vital message that there is no place for racism or sectarianism in football or society.
Ged Grebby, Show Racism the Red Card Chief Executive said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our campaign to highlight our anti-racist and anti-sectarianism message. Having the Scotland team wearing our armbands during the game will highlight the fact that Scottish football wants to see an end to the twin blights of racism and sectarianism. We hope that the players wearing the wristbands will then lead to supporters buying them from their Football Club’s shops and our website. Scotland fans have a world wide reputation for their friendliness this is incompatible with sectarian and racist abuse. Well done to the SFA for supporting this new initiative.”
All of the above will mark the beginning of an exciting few months, where Show Racism the Red card will launch the new wristband mentioned above, and prepare for the Fortnight of Action 2011. For the first time ever this year the Fortnight of Action will make a stand against both racism and sectarianism, and see all professional football clubs take action throughout the fortnight.
We believe that it is vital to highlight the anti-sectarian message as well as the anti-racism one at this time, when recent incidents have once again highlighted the problem of sectarianism within our communities.
