Show Racism the Red Card/ Show Bigotry the Red Card strongly condemn any act of racism, discrimination or sectarianism, especially in relation to a number of events that have marred Scottish football in the recent weeks.
However, the purpose of our organisation is to design and deliver resources and programmes of education in the area of equalities. We work with young people in primary and secondary schools, young adults and adults in further education, within workplaces, community groups, with football fans and with teaching and youth work professionals to deliver educational work which promotes a strong message of anti-racism and anti-sectarianism and celebrates diversity within a multi-cultural, multi-religious contemporary Scotland.
Show Racism the Red Card achieve this through using the status of footballers as a vehicle of promoting this message of anti-racism and anti-sectarianism and receive support from the SFA, and all SPL/SFL clubs in Scotland who assist us in promoting this message throughout the year. We also have a team of ex-professional football coaches who deliver much of this work within the community alongside the Red Card team.
Show Racism the Red Card is not a policy making body within Scottish football, it is not responsible for issuing sanctions against any individual clubs nor do we report on unacceptable behaviour of fans attending games. We are not responsible for enforcement we are simply about education.
Show Racism the Red card will continue to deliver programmes of anti-racism and anti-sectarian educational work in Scotland but we can’t banish racism and sectarianism from Scottish society alone and believe we all have responsibility to challenge negative behaviours. Keep an eye on our website throughout the year for information of the many ways you can get involved and keep showing racism and sectarianism the Red Card!
