We teamed up with Bolton Wanderers Community Trust & Balfour Beatty Education to stage an event at the Reebok Stadium.
Show Racism the Red Card teamed up with Bolton Wanderers Community Trust and Balfour Beatty Education to stage an event for 100 young people from Bolton Primary schools at the Reebok Stadium on Tuesday 12 October.
The event was opened by Balfour Beatty's Education Manager. Balfour Beatty sponsored this event and is working with Show Racism the Red Card on events in the Bolton and Blackburn & Darwen areas, where they are building schools for the future.
The Year 5&6 pupils who attended the event were able to take part in an educational workshop run by former professional footballers and Show Racism the Red Card coach, Christian Roberts. The workshop included activities on defining racism, recognising racist terminology and the influence of world cultures on every day life. After viewing the Show Racism the Red Card DVD in the second hour, the young people had the opportunity to put their questions on racism to Christian.
The panel's favourite questions were awarded Show Racism the Red Card kit bags and t-shirts. There were some excellent questions to choose from and the Q&A session could have gone on for double the amount of time allocated! Following the Q&A the young people were able to get a copy of the new Show Racism the Red Card Bolton Wanderers FC poster and goody bag from the club's mascot Lofty the Lion. The event also attracted some good press coverage, with Premier League TV and local newspaper Bolton Evening News covering the event.
Unfortunately no BWFC players were able to attend the event due to a last minute training schedule change. Show Racism the Red Card look forward to working again with the club. Big thanks to Balfour Beatty for their support and Martin Hill and Ben Laycock from Bolton Wanderers Community Trust for all their help in organising the event.
