Dunfermline Athletic FC Show Racism the Red Card

October 04, 2010 by srtrc in Scotland

Primary seven pupils from Canmore, Crombie, Inverkeithing, Lynburn, Townhill and Pitcohorthie Primary Schools participated in an anti-racist education seminar at Dunfermline Athletic FC, organised by Show Racism the Red Card.

After watching the Show Racism the Red Card film the young people were given the opportunity to ask questions on racism to a panel which included ex-Rangers player Derek Ferguson, David Watson form Fife Council and Dunfermline Athletic FC players: Alex Burke, Austin McCann and Steven McDougall.

Speaking after the event David Watson said “The Show Racism the Red Card event at East End Park yesterday was a great success. It was attended by 178 pupils who responded with great enthusiasm to the various activities and put some very searching questions to the panel. This is a very useful contribution to the race equality work going on in schools.”

Amanda Peebles, Campaign Worker for Show Racism the Red Card added, “The input of the school pupils demonstrates a clear willingness to engage with anti-racist education in a positive and unique manner. The support and enthusiasm from Fife Council, Dunfermline Athletic FC and their players demonstrates a clear commitment to stamping out racism in the region”.

We would like to thank all six Primary Schools who attended this enjoyable and informative anti-racist education seminar.
