On Wednesday 8th September 2010 Show Racism the Red Card Scotland facilitated an educational workshop using their new resource ‘Out of Site’ at McDairmid Park, St Johnstone Football Club.
Primary six pupils from Luncarty Primary School participated in the ‘Out of Site’ workshop, a fun coaching session and a stadium tour, thanks to funding from Perth and Kinross Councils Community Safety Partnership
The pupils had an excellent morning which was both educational and enjoyable. The input and enthusiasm from the school pupils demonstrates a clear willingness to engage with anti-racist education in a positive and unique manner. We hope this is the first of many ‘Out of Site’ educational workshops throughout Scotland.
The afternoon was the official launch, in Scotland, of ‘Out of Site’, an educational tool for use within schools, further education colleges and youth and community groups, which challenges racism directed towards the Gypsy Roma Traveller (GRT) community.
This is not a new form of racism, and it is a form of racism that Show Racism the Red Card has always been committed to challenging. However, we feel that this new resource will complement the existing educational materials and workshops we deliver.
There is a significant GRT community within Perth and Kinross and we were delighted that some representatives from the Doublkedykes site in Perth attended the launch.
The event was well attended and we had a fantastic line up of speakers representing organisations who are committed to challenging racism towards GRT communities and who spoke about their experiences. The day was a great success.
