Spartans FC hosted Show Racism the Red Card educational seminars for the first time at Ainslie Park. The event took place on Thursday the 29th of April.
The day will consist of two sessions, the first taking place in the morning with pupils from Forthview and St David’s Primary School and the second seminar will take place in the afternoon with pupils from Craigroyston and Trinity Primary School.
The aim of this event is to provide anti-racist education in an enjoyable and focussed environment to local Primary 7 pupils. The young people attending the event will have the opportunity to explore issues around racism through watching a Show Racism the Red Card film and taking part in a Q&A session with a panel consisting of Spartans players alongside ex-Hearts player and Gary MacKay and ex-Hibs player Michael Weir.
Tommy Breslin, Education Co-ordinator with Show Racism The Red Card, said, “Spartans FC have supported Show Racism the Red Card’s message for a number of years. We are very pleased to be able to now build on that support through these essential educational seminars at Ainslie Park Stadium in the first season that it has been open.”
Spartans FC central defender Dan Gerrard added, “We’re delighted to lend our continued support to SRtRC by hosting this fantastic event at our Academy. We fully endorse their message and welcome the opportunity to further develop our relationship with schools in the local community.”
Jackie Mearns, Equalities Officer “We are always delighted to have Show Racism the Red Card run these events for our P7 pupils. I know that they are truly valued and enjoyed by pupils and schools and the fact that they are so often over prescribed is testament to that. Many thanks also to the Spartans for hosting this event for local schools in their area.”
Show Racism would like to thank all those that made this event possible and the young people that attended and made this day a very positive one.
